When I heard the news that Prof Shad had launched a new book Document of Destiny, The Constitution of the federation of Malaysia, I was really delighted (so sad, why I miss it!) and proud of my ‘mahaguru’ who taught me the importance of appreciate the law to help the society. (read his inspiring speech here). Finally Prof Dr. Shad Saleem Faruqi who did his PhD under Tan Sri Ahmad Ibrahim in 1990s, has published something that’s very crucial publication not for our faculty but also towards the society. I always express my gratitude towards him if he wrote something about law especially when he said in an article that i kept read it always that ‘Law is a journey not destination!. I’m the avid follower of his column Facets of Constitution since 2000 in The Star and currently Reflecting on the Law in same newspaper.
My batch was lucky since he taught us two subjects including Constitutional Law II and Jurisprudence II. At that time I always remember that he was so passionate about the our constitution and made us understand that the document is not mere for exams and articles only but how to appreciate and understanding the spirit of ‘constitutionalism’ among Malaysian. I don’t know how to express my feeling when I attended his class but for all I salute his contribution towards FUU UiTM since 1970s. He is so special towards our legal academia.
I hope that one day I would follow his footstep, even though I’m not the holder of first-class honours law degree with distinction LLM like him. Anywhere, he is so humble when it comes to teach us and I remember he said sorry if someone would be offended by his opinion. This is really great law teacher we have for 30years since. On the other hand, I really inspired about his ability to write about law and constitution even his schedule was so hectic with classes or maybe any seminars or consultations. Nevertheless, he reminded me how to appreciate the uniqueness of Malaysia by looking at our historic and supreme Constitution. Thanks prof…I’m really proud to become your student!:)
